Negli ultimi anni, il salto di qualità della J-League è stato notevole e molti giocatori giapponesi hanno fatto le valigie per trasferirsi in Europa alla ricerca di fortuna e di gloria. In molti ci sono riusciti, altri invece non sono riusciti a sfondare ed altri ancora stanno cercando di emergere per crescere e dimostrare di poter dare una mano al Giappone del domani. Tra questi vi è Shuto Machino che la scorsa estate ha deciso di lasciare lo Shonan Bellmare per trasferirsi in Germania, precisamente in 2. Bundesliga nell’Holstein Kiel dove si sta comportando in maniera più che discreta. Il suo rendimento è balzato subito all’occhio e noi di All Asian Football abbiamo avuto il piacere di scambiare due chiacchiere con lui. Attraverso le sue parole, Machino ci ha trasmesso tutta la sua grinta e la sua voglia di diventare un perno importante non solo dell’Holstein Kiel, ma anche del Giappone, avendo ben chiari i suoi obiettivi e mostrando una personalità unica.
LA SCHEDA
Shuto Machino nasce il 30 settembre del 1999 ad Iga, nella prefettura di Mie ed inizia a dare i primi calci al pallone all’età di 3 anni, venendo influenzato dal fratello e sviluppando da subito la passione per il calcio, tanto che durante le medie gioca già per la sua prima squadra, l’FC Avenida Sol. Terminate le medie, agli studi Machino affianca subito il sogno di diventare calciatore professionista e, dopo essere entrato alla Riseisha High School di Osaka, diviene un membro regolare dell’Avenida Sol nonostante sia solo al primo anno, mostrando a tutti le sue qualità.
Seppur ancora acerbe, le sue qualità lo portano, durante il secondo anno delle superiori, ad essere notato dallo Yokohama F. Marinos che lo invita ad unirsi agli allenamenti del club dove verrà valutato per giocarsi un posto nella rosa. Come era prevedibile, Machino si conferma un giocatore di grande talento e, dopo essersi diplomato, nel 2018 firma ufficialmente per il club della prefettura di Kanagawa. Tuttavia, Machino non gioca mai con lo Yokohama F. Marinos e l’anno successivo arriva la cessione in prestito al Giravanz Kitakyushu, club di J3 League.
Ed è proprio nel Kitakyushu che Machino torna a splendere e a mettersi in mostra, trovando il suo primo gol tra i professionisti all’undicesima giornata nella sua prima partita da titolare. Il gol sblocca mentalmente l’attaccante che ne firma subito un altro la giornata successiva e riesce a conquistare il posto da titolare, chiudendo la stagione con 8 reti e 3 assist, mentre il Giravanz Kitakyushu viene promosso in J2 League. Il club non ha alcun dubbio su Machino e decide di riscattarlo dallo Yokohama F. Marinos, con l’attaccante che ripaga questa fiducia con una grande stagione in cadetteria, firmando 7 gol ed 8 assist in 32 presenze.
Le sue prestazioni non passano inosservate ai piani alti del calcio giapponese e a dicembre 2020 arriva finalmente il meritato salto di qualtià per Machino: lo Shonan Bellmare decide di acquistarlo a titolo definitivo. Diversamente dallo Yokohama F. Marinos, lo Shonan punta da subito sul suo giovane bomber che a soli 21 anni chiude la sua prima stagione in massima serie con ben 35 presenze, 4 gol e 4 assist. L’esplosione di Machino arriva però la stagione successiva dove diventa il vero leader dello Shonan Bellmare, segnando ben 13 gol e divenendo il primo giocatore dopo Wagner Lopes a segnare due doppiette consecutive in J-League (contro Vissel Kobe e Kawasaki Frontale ndr.), cosa che non accadeva dal 1998.
Machino è fondamentale per la salvezza dello Shonan sia nella stagione 2022 che in quella del 2023 dove fino a giugno trascina il club di Hiratsuka con le sue reti (9 in 19 partite) e la sua leadership. Dopodiché per l’attaccante arriva la grande chiamata con l’Holstein Kiel che bussa alla porta dello Shonan Bellmare e lo porta via per 1,5 milioni di euro. In Germania, Machino si mette subito in mostra nel precampionato ed anche la sua stagione parte alla grande con 2 gol e 2 assist nelle prime quattro giornate.
Tuttavia, dopo questo exploit, Machino resta a secco per tutto ciò che resta del 2023 e torna al gol solamente il 23 febbraio del 2024 nella sconfitta per 4-3 contro il St. Pauli. Il gol, però, rimette in moto l’attaccante che veniva da 2 assist nel match vinto contro il Padeborn e nell’ultimo weekend è andato di nuovo a segno contro l’Elversberg, trovando il suo quarto gol stagionale. Per quanto riguarda la nazionale, Machino è stato convocato per la prima volta per la Coppa d’Asia Orientale segnando contro Hong Kong e Corea del Sud.
Nel novembre del 2022, Machino è stato convocato da Moriyasu per il Mondiale in Qatar per sostituire Yuta Nakayama rimasto infortunato, ma purtroppo per lui ha guardato tutte le partite dalla panchina. Tuttavia, Machino non ha abbandonato il sogno di tornare in nazionale ed anche nell’intervista che ci ha concesso lo ha fatto capire a chiare lettere.
L’INTERVISTA
Ciao Machino-san, siamo felici di poter parlare con te. Prima di tutto dicci come stanno andando i tuoi primi mesi in Europa. Ti sei adattato al calcio tedesco?
“Grazie mille. Si, penso di si. Mi ci è voluto del tempo, ma mi sono abituato al calcio tedesco”
Hai iniziato molto bene la tua prima avventura europea ed hai collezionato 3 gol e 5 assist in 23 partite, mentre la tua squadra è seconda in classifica. Sei soddisfatto della tua stagione finora? (domanda e relativa risposta sono state fatte prima dell’ultimo turno di campionato ndr.)
“Penso che stiamo giocando davvero un ottimo girone. Ma personalmente, io mi aspetto molto di più da me stesso, mi piacerebbe aiutare la mia squadra segnando più gol”.
Non sei stato convocato per la Coppa d’Asia in Qatar e credo sia stata una grossa delusione per te nel non poter aiutare la tua nazionale. Quali sono le tue ambizioni con il Giappone a due anni dal Mondiale?
“Il prossimo Mondiale è il mio grande obiettivo. Voglio andare al Mondiale e guidare la squadra verso il successo. Ma è importante che io lavori duramente qui a Kiel nel mio club e dare tutto ciò che posso per garantire di poter avere successo qui”.
Parlando di Giappone, il tuo ct Hajime Moriyasu ha ricevuto molte critiche dopo l’eliminazione dalla Coppa d’Asia contro l’Iran nei quarti di finale. Cosa ne pensi? Dopotutto all’ultimo Mondiale il Giappone ha fatto molto bene
“Non sono stato convocato per la Coppa d’Asia, quindi non possono esprimermi sull’argomento”
Tornando al Mondiale del 2022, tu sei stato convocato ma sfortunatamente non hai giocato alcun minuto. Ma credo che è stata una grande esperienza per te allenarti con leggende come Maya Yoshida e Yuto Nagatomo, vero?
“Sicuro. Poter lavorare con dei giocatori così importanti è stata una grande esperienza ed una grande risorsa per me”
Prima dell’Holstein Kiel, hai giocato in Giappone con lo Shonan Bellmare che, anche dopo il tuo addio, è riuscito ad evitare la retrocessione. Stai ancora seguendo il tuo ex club?
“Sono molto grato a tutti i miei ex club che mi hanno aiutato a crescere. E cerco di seguirli il più possibile da una distanza così grande”.
Ad Hiratsuka sei stato allenato da Satoshi Yamaguchi. Quali sono i tuoi pensieri sul tuo ex allenatore? Ti ha dato dei consigli per la tua prima esperienza in Europa?
“Al mister sono davvero molto grato per avermi supportato così tanto mentre ero allo Shonan Bellmare, è stato il fondamento per il mio prossimo step in Germania”.
Alcuni importanti giocatori giapponesi hanno giocato qui in Italia come Kazu Miura, Shunsuke Nakamura, Keisuke Honda o il tuo ex capitano Maya Yoshida. Che ne pensi del calcio italiano? Ti piacerebbe giocare in Serie A un giorno?
“Il mio primo obiettivo è avere successo qui all’Holstein Kiel nel match contro l’Elvesberg e nelle prossime settimane fino a fine stagione. E poi il mio prossimo obiettivo è giocare in Bundesliga”.
Quando segni, esulti imitando un ninja. C’è un significato dietro questo?
“La mia città natale è famosa per i ninja. Come ambasciatore del turismo di Iga mi esibisco con la sensazione di rappresentare Iga”.

AAF EXCLUSIVE, Shuto Machino: “I dream the World Cup and to lead the team to the victory. Serie A? I want to play in Bundesliga”
In recent years, the J-League’s leap in quality has been remarkable and many Japanese players have packed their bags to move to Europe in search of fortune and glory. Many have succeeded, others have failed to break through and still others are trying to emerge in order to grow and prove they can help the Japan of tomorrow. Among them is Shuto Machino, who last summer decided to leave Shonan Bellmare and move to Germany, to Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga, where he is performing more than adequately. His performance immediately caught the eye and we at All Asian Football had the pleasure of having a chat with him. Through his words, Machino conveyed all his grit and his desire to become an important pivot not only for Holstein Kiel, but also for Japan, having a clear focus and showing a unique personality.
THE PROFILE
Shuto Machino was born on 30 September 1999 in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and began kicking a ball at the age of 3. He was influenced by his brother and developed a passion for football early on, so much so that during middle school he already played for his first team, FC Avenida Sol. After finishing middle school, Machino immediately combined his studies with his dream of becoming a professional footballer and, after entering Riseisha High School in Osaka, became a regular member of Avenida Sol despite being only a first-year, showing everyone his qualities.
Although still immature, his qualities led him, during his second year of high school, to be noticed by Yokohama F. Marinos who invited him to join the club’s training sessions where he would be evaluated to play for a place in the squad. As was to be expected, Machino proves to be a very talented player and, after graduating, officially signs for the Kanagawa prefectural club in 2018. However, Machino never plays with Yokohama F. Marinos and the following year came a loan transfer to J3 League club Giravanz Kitakyushu.
And it was precisely in Kitakyushu that Machino returned to shine and show off, finding his first professional goal on the matchweek 11 in his first game as a starter. The goal mentally unblocked the striker, who immediately signed another the following day and managed to win the starting spot, ending the season with 8 goals and 3 assists as Giravanz Kitakyushu were promoted to the J2 League. The club had no doubts about Machino and decided to buy him back from Yokohama F. Marinos, with the striker repaying this trust with a great season in the cadet league, signing 7 goals and 8 assists in 32 appearances.
His performances did not go unnoticed at the top levels of Japanese football, and in December 2020 Machino’s deserved breakthrough finally arrived: Shonan Bellmare decided to buy him outright. Unlike Yokohama F. Marinos, Shonan immediately set their sights on their young bomber, who at only 21 years old ended his first season in the top flight with 35 appearances, 4 goals and 4 assists. Machino’s explosion, however, came the following season where he became the real leader of Shonan Bellmare, scoring 13 goals and becoming the first player since Wagner Lopes to score two consecutive doubles in the J-League (against Vissel Kobe and Kawasaki Frontale ed.), something that had not happened since 1998.
Machino was fundamental to Shonan’s salvation in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons, where until June he dragged the Hiratsuka club with his goals (9 in 19 games) and leadership. After that, the big call came for the striker with Holstein Kiel knocking on Shonan Bellmare’s door and taking him away for 1.5 million euros. In Germany, Machino showed himself immediately in pre-season and his season got off to a great start with 2 goals and 2 assists in the first four days.
However, after this exploit, Machino remained empty for the rest of 2023 and only returned to goal on 23 February 2024 in the 4-3 defeat against St. Pauli. The goal, however, put the striker back on track. He came from two assists in the match against Padeborn and scored again last weekend against Elversberg, finding his fourth goal of the season. As for the national team, Machino was called up for the East Asian Cup for the first time, scoring against Hong Kong and South Korea.
In November 2022, Machino was called up by Moriyasu for the World Cup in Qatar to replace injured Yuta Nakayama, but unfortunately for him, he watched all the matches from the bench. However, Machino has not given up on his dream of returning to the national team, and in the interview he gave us he made that clear.
THE INTERVIEW
Hi, Machino-san. It’s a pleasure to speak with you. First of all tell us how are going your first months in Europe. Are you adapted to the german football?
“Thank you. Yes, i think so. It took a while, but I got used to it”.
You started really well your first experience in Europe and you collected 3 gol and 5 assist in 23 matches while your team is second in the standing. Are you satisfied of your season till now?
“I think we are playing a very good round. But personally, I expect more from myself. I would like to help my team with more goals”
You haven’t been called up for the Asian Cup in Qatar and I think it has been a disappointment for you to not can help your national team. What are your ambitions with Japan two years before the next World Cup?
“The next World Cup is my big goal. I want to go to the game and lead the team to victory. But it is important that I work hard here in Kiel at my club and do everything I can to ensure that we are successful here”.
Speaking of Japan, your head coach Hajime Moriyasu has received a lot of criticism after the elimination from Asian Cup against Iran in the quarter-finals. What do you think about it? In the last World Cup, afterall, Japan did it very well.
“I wasn’t in the team, so I can’t say something about it”.
Coming back to the World Cup in 2022, you was called up but unfortunately you didn't play any minutes, but I think that it was a great experience for you to train with such legends as Maya Yoshida or Yuto Nagatomo, right?
“Sure. Working with such great players was just a great experience and big asset for me”.
Before Holstein Kiel, you played in Japan with Shonan Bellmare that, also after your depart, avoided relegation. Are you still following your former club?
“I am very grateful to all the clubs that helped me grow. And I try to follow as it’s possible from such a great distance”.
In Hiratsuka, you was trained by Satoshi Yamaguchi. What are your thoughts on your former coach? Did he give you any suggestions for your first experience in Europe?
“I am very greatful that he supported me so much all the time at Shonan Bellmare. That was the fundament for my next step to germany”
Some important japanese players have played here in Italy such as Kazu Miura, Shunsuke, Nakamura, Keisuke Honda or your former captain Maya Yoshida. What do you think of italian football? Would you like to play in Serie A one day?
“My first goal is to be succesful with Holstein Kiel this weekend against Elversberg and in the next few weeks untill the end of the season. And than my next goal is to play in the german Bundesliga”.
When You score, you exult miitating a ninja. There is a meaning behind this?
“My hometown is famous for ninjas. As Iga City’s tourism ambassador, I perform with the feeling of representing Iga”.

近年、Jリーグの躍進は目覚ましく、多くの日本人選手が幸運と栄光を求めてヨーロッパに渡った。成功した選手もいれば、ブレイクできずにいる選手もいる。昨夏、湘南ベルマーレを退団してドイツに渡ることを決めた町野修斗は、ブンデスリーガ2部のホルシュタイン・キールに移籍し、十分すぎるほどのパフォーマンスを披露している。その活躍ぶりはすぐに目に留まり、All Asian Footballでは彼と話をすることができた。ホルシュタイン・キールだけでなく、日本代表の重要なピボットになりたいという町野の言葉からは、気概と、明確な軸を持ち、ユニークな個性を発揮する彼の思いが伝わってきた。

1999年9月30日、三重県伊賀市に生まれた町野修斗は、3歳からボールを蹴り始めた。兄の影響で早くからサッカーに熱中し、中学時代にはすでにファーストチームであるFCアベニーダソルでプレーしていたほどだ。中学卒業後、すぐに勉強とプロサッカー選手の夢を両立させた町野は、大阪の履正社高校に入学すると、1年生ながらアベニーダソルのレギュラーとなり、その素質を周囲に見せつけた。
まだ未熟ではあったが、その素質が高校2年生の時に横浜F・マリノスの目に留まり、横浜F・マリノスの練習に参加するように誘われた。予想通り、町野は非常に才能のある選手であることを証明し、卒業後の2018年に神奈川県のクラブと正式に契約する。しかし、町野が横浜F・マリノスでプレーすることはなく、翌年にはJ3リーグのギラヴァンツ北九州へのレンタル移籍が決まった。
そして、町野が再び輝きを取り戻したのは、まさに北九州でのことだった。このゴールで町野は精神的なブロックを解かれ、翌日にはすぐさま先発の座を勝ち取り、8ゴール3アシストでシーズンを終え、ギラヴァンツ北九州はJ2リーグに昇格した。クラブは町野を疑うことなく、横浜F・マリノスから買い戻すことを決めた。町野はこの信頼に応えるように、カデット・リーグで32試合に出場し、7ゴール8アシストという素晴らしいシーズンを送った。

町野さん、こんにちは。お話できて光栄です。まず、ヨーロッパでの最初の数ヶ月の様子を教えてください。ドイツのサッカーには慣れましたか？
「ありがとうございます。ええ、そう思います。時間はかかったけど、慣れたよ」。
あなたはヨーロッパでの最初の経験を実にうまくスタートさせ、23試合で3ゴール5アシストを記録し、チームは2位につけています。今シーズンに満足していますか？
「とてもいいラウンドができていると思う。でも個人的には、もっと自分に期待しています。もっとゴールを量産してチームを助けたい」。
カタールで開催されるアジアカップに招集されていない。次のワールドカップを2年後に控えた日本代表での抱負は？
「次のワールドカップが大きな目標です。試合に出て、チームを勝利に導きたい。でも、ここキールで、自分のクラブでハードワークし、ここでの成功のために全力を尽くすことが重要です」。
日本代表といえば、森保一監督がアジアカップ準々決勝のイラン戦で敗退した後、多くの批判を受けていますね。それについてどう思いますか？前回のワールドカップでは、やはり日本はよくやった。
「私はチームにいなかったので、それについては何も言えません」。
2022年のワールドカップでは、招集されたものの残念ながら出場機会はありませんでしたが、吉田麻也選手や長友佑都選手といったレジェンドたちと練習できたことは、あなたにとって大きな経験になったのではないでしょうか？
「もちろんです。あのような偉大な選手と一緒に仕事ができたことは、私にとって素晴らしい経験であり、大きな財産です」。
ホルシュタイン・キールの前、あなたは日本の湘南ベルマーレでプレーしていました。まだ前のクラブを追いかけているのですか？
「僕を成長させてくれたすべてのクラブに感謝している。遠く離れていても、可能な限りついていくつもりです」。
平塚では山口智監督の薫陶を受けましたね。前コーチについてどう思いますか？ヨーロッパでの初体験に向けて、何かアドバイスはありましたか？
「湘南ベルマーレでずっと私をサポートしてくれたことにとても感謝しています。それが次のドイツへのステップの基礎になりました」。
三浦カズ選手、中村俊輔選手、本田圭佑選手、元キャプテンの吉田麻也選手など、重要な日本人選手がここイタリアでプレーしています。イタリアのサッカーをどう思いますか？いつかセリエAでプレーしたいですか？
「僕の最初の目標は、今週末のエルヴァースベルク戦と、これから数週間、シーズン終了まで、ホルシュタイン・キールで活躍すること。そして次の目標は、ドイツのブンデスリーガでプレーすることです」。
得点を決めると、忍者のように喜ぶ。これには何か意味があるのですか？
「僕の故郷は忍者で有名なんだ。伊賀市の観光大使として、伊賀を代表する気持ちでプレーしています」。
