Quest’anno in Arabia Saudita vi erano diversi scenari che facevano presagire un cambio di rotta riguardo la corsa titolo e Champions.
La consueta ed abitudinale lotta tra al Hilal e al Nassr non è continuata per la terza stagione di fila, anzi, entrambe le squadre sembravano giunte a fine ciclo: gli addii di Musa e Giuliano, l’esonero di Rui Vitoria, i problemi COVID, infortuni e societari del bomber Hamdallah avevano fatto si’ che dopo le prime 8 giornate, l’al Nassr si trovasse inaspettatamente in zona retrocessione (1 sola vittoria, 1 pareggio e 6 sconfitte). Nonostante ciò gli uomini attualmente guidati da Mano Menezes hanno avuto un bell’upgrade, qualificandosi alle fasi finali della Champions, ma terminando il Campionato in quinta posizione; ciò costringe, purtroppo, i Faris Najd a puntare sulla vittoria della Coppa per qualificarsi all’edizione del prossimo anno (dove fortunatamente avranno già a disposizione Talisca).
D’altra parte l’al Hilal, che veniva da un’ ingiusta esclusione (piu che eliminazione) dalla Champions League, aveva il morale a terra e dopo una partenza a razzo si è trovata in un loop di pareggi e sconfitte durante il mese di Dicembre, che rischiavano di mandare tutto all’aria, complice l’infortunio di Salem e la difficile integrazione (all’inizio) di Vietto. L’eliminazione in Coppa nazionale agli ottavi contro l’al Fateh, la sconfitta contro l’al Wehda peggiore della storia (attualmente in zona retrocessione) e 4 pareggi consecutivi avevano fatto scivolare la Mezzaluna in quarta posizione. Non solo: la dura sconfitta in Supercoppa, proprio contro l’al Nassr, seguita dalle cadute in campionato contro Abha, Damac e di nuovo al Nassr per un totale di 4 partite perse in 6 giocate e un inevitabile esonero di “Mister Triplete” Razvan Lucescu.
Parallelamente, l’al Shabab e l’al Ittihad sono cresciute a vista d’occhio. I primi con l’acquisto del Tanguito Ever Banega avevano e hanno acquisito mentalità e sicurezza, tanto da giocarsi il titolo fino alla penultima giornata, dove però hanno pagato la stanchezza visto che la formazione è stata praticamente la stessa da Ottobre fino a Maggio; l’al Ittihad invece, con 0 acquisti in entrata ha decisamente migliorato lo score della stagione precedente, che lo vedeva in lotta retrocessione. Adesso le Tigri di Jeddah si sono ufficialmente qualificate per la Champions League, merito di un grande allenatore quale Fabio Carille che nel giro di pochi mesi ha portato la stessa squadra dalle ultime alle prime posizioni.
Tornando all’al Hilal, dopo l’esonero di Lucescu è stata la volta di Rogerio Micale, sempre stato ostile a tifosi e società (allora perchè lo hanno preso?) causa diverse scelte come l’esclusione di Giovinco sia dalla lista Champions che in campionato. A proposito di Champions, sarà questa fatale al veterano brasiliano che non ha rispettato gli standard del club in Asia, qualificandosi per il rotto della cuffia come miglior seconda e costringendo i piani alti societari ad un altro esonero.
Il rush finale è stato firmato Jose Morais, storico vice di Mourinho a Porto, Inter e Chelsea oltre che esser stato tecnico del Jeonbuk fino a pochi mesi fa dove ha riempito la bacheca sudcoreana di trofei (la media punti a partita è sopra i 2 in oltre 100 disputate). Il tecnico portoghese ha riportato ordine, armonia e soprattutto Giovinco in campo e cosi’ facendo ha permesso al solito ed implacabile Bafetimbi Lion Gomis di confermarsi capocannoniere con 24 reti all’attivo e dimostrandosi sempre piu’ trascinatore all’età di 36 anni. L’esordio nella difficile partita in casa dell’al Shabab era il title match e con solo 3 giorni a disposizione, per preparare la gara, Morais e la sua squadra hanno inflitto un severissimo 5-1 a Banega e compagni, mettendo il punto esclamativo sul campionato.
Campionato numero 17 portato a casa, per un totale di 62 trofei nella propria prestigiosa bacheca. Dopo quest’ennesima conquista l’al Hilal punta a diventare sempre piu’ grande e confermare il proprio status da assoluta dominatrice in tutta l’Asia.

Prima di partire per la Champions a metà Aprile, l’al Hilal va a Jeddah per giocare il Classico e a sorpresa ne esce sconfitto. Romarinho, star brasiliana in forza all’al Ittihad è un vero e proprio fenomeno. Le voci su una sua probabile naturalizzazioni sono sempre piu’ intense.
Nel proprio miglior periodo di forma (Febbraio/Marzo) l’al Shabab di Banega dominava e si trovava in prima posizione. Questo pesantissimo 4-0 inflitto all’al Nassr è la conferma che dalla passata stagione qualcosa sia cambiato.
Giungendo piu’ ai giorni nostri, l’al Hilal dopo aver ritrovato serenità, voglia di divertirsi e divertire si è ripresa la vetta e da li è stato un campionato poco equilibrato. I ritmi della Mezzaluna sono ancora troppo alti per le concorrenti: il calo dell’al Nassr, la diaspora al Ahli e le “troppo giovani” Ittihad e Shabab non possono competere con il ciclo piu’ vincente della storia asiatica.
