Lo Jiangsu Suning è diventato grande

Giornata storica in Chinese Super League con lo Jiangsu Suning che vince per la prima volta il campionato nella sua storia battendo il Guangzhou Evergrande in finale con le reti di Eder e Teixeira. 

Questa stagione 2020 in Cina è stata del  tutto particolare: si è svolta in due bolle, con le squadre divise in due gironi da 8 squadre per un totale di 14 giornate di regular season, per poi approdare ai playoff e playout per tutte le compagini. Nelle scorse settimane ad esempio abbiamo visto il Tianin Teda, che non ha vinto una singola partita nella fase a gironi, trionfare poi nel primo match eliminatorio garantendosi così un’immeritata salvezza.

Dalla noia della regular season si è passati ad una fase playoff estremamente avvincente, nella quale vi erano chiaramente delle favorite, ma con la consapevolezza che in degli scontri diretti tutto può succedere. Ecco dunque che lo Jiangsu Suning, dopo aver chiuso il girone A al secondo posto alle spalle dell’Evergrande (ad otto punti di distanza), dopo aver eliminato senza qualche patema il Chongqing Dangdai, si ritrova di fronte alla corazzata Shanghai Sipg di Oscar e Hulk.

La squadra di Cosmin Olaroiu ha costruito le proprie fortune su un solido 4-4-2, con Miranda a guidare la difesa e il roccioso Mubarak Wakaso in mediana e davanti la fantasia di Alex Teixeira e l’ex Inter Eder Martins. Una formazione di quantità e qualità in grado di giocare da squadra e per questo ha avuto meglio sul gioco egoistico dello Shanghai Sipg: 1-1 all’andata e 2-1 al ritorno.

In finale l’avversario era il Guangzhou Evergrande di Paulinho, Talisca e dei naturalizzati Fernandinho e Elkeson, ovvero una corazzata quasi inarrestabile, nonchè una delle migliori formazioni del panorama asiatico. La partita d’andata finisce 0-0 e dunque il verdetto è rimandato alla seconda gara…. l’equilibrio nel primo tempo è totale, ma poi si accende il genio di Alex Teixeira che si fa tutto il campo in contropiede venendo poi abbattuto da He Chao al limite dell’area di rigore. Fallo da ultimo uomo e cartellino rosso. La partita cambia radicalmente e ad indirizzarla ulteriormente ci pensa Eder Citadin Martins con un calcio di punizione che si insacca in rete a causa della deviazione di Paulinho.

A inizio ripresa Alex Teixeira è ancora una volta inarrestabile: al 49′ movimento dalla sinistra a rientrare e tiro sul palo alla destra del portiere che trova il giusto angolo. E’ 2-0 ed in quel momento lo Jiangsu Suning capisce veramente di potercela fare.

Fabio Cannavaro effettua molteplici cambi mettendo in campo una formazione prettamente offensiva. Mai dare per morto il Guangzhou Evergrande che con una grande reazione d’orgoglio si rimette in partita con la rete di Wei Shihao. Ma nel finale lo Jiangsu Suning riesce a rallentare e gestire i ritmi del match, sprecando anche qualche contropiede molto invitante che poteva costare caro.

Dopo sette lunghissimi minuti di recupero l’arbitro fischia finalmente la fine e lo Jiangsu Suning per la prima volta nella sua storia è campione di Cina, mentre il Guangzhou Evergrande di Fabio Cannavaro se ne deve tornare a casa con le mani vuote.

Un successo che porta il nome di Alex Teixeira e Eder Citadin Martins, attaccanti reduci da una stagione fantastica  nella quale hanno messo a segno rispettivamente 10 e 9 gol. Ma il merito va anche all’allenatore, Cosmin Olaroiu: il rumeno è una delle figure più vincenti dell’intero panorama asiatico, capace di vincere 4 campionati e 4 coppe negli Emirati Arabi Uniti, oltre ad aver raccolto successi in Qatar ed Arabia Saudita… per poi scrivere un pezzo di storia in Cina.

Il successo targato Suning

Questo titolo è arrivato anche a causa della formula particolare di questo campionato considerando che, con un format standard, lo Jiangsu Suning era in lizza per il terzo posto e tornare in Champions League dopo diversi anni. Al quinto anno della proprietà Suning è invece arrivato un inaspettato successo che proietta la squadra di nanchino verso una nuova dimensione dopo anni di instabilità.

Suning è diventata proprietaria del club di Nanchino nel 2016 e subito ha allestito un calciomercato faraonico spendendo oltre 100 milioni di euro portando alla corte di Dan Petrescu giocatori del calibro di Alex Teixeira (prelevato per 50 milioni dallo Shakthar) e Ramires (pagato 28 milioni al Chelsea). Le cose procedono fra alti e bassi, l’allenatore rumeno viene esonerato in favore del coreano Choi Yong soo a causa dell’eliminazione ai gironi di Champions oltre ad una serie di risultati negativi. Lo Jiangsu Suning finisce sia il campionato che la Coppa Nazionale al secondo posto alle spalle del Guangzhou Evergrande. Sembra l’inizio di una nuova dimensione per la squadra di nanchino, ma tutto cambia in peggio l’anno successivo.

Nel 2017 lo Jiangsu Suning si ritrova invischiato nella lotta per non retrocedere. Choi fa spazio a Fabio Capello, con il tecnico italiano che arriva in coppia con il ds Walter Sabatini, eppure le cose continuano a non funzionare soprattutto a causa di un caos societario dato dal tentativo fallito di trasferire Ramires all’Inter e di cedere Teixeira in Brasile. Alla fine lo Jiangsu riuscirà a salvarsi, ma la squadra è completamente allo sbando, tanto che nel ritiro pre stagionale del 2018 viene sconfitta per 8-0 dal CSKA Sofia.

L’esperienza fallimentare di Fabio Capello è agli sgoccioli e dopo sole tre giornate il tecnico italiano rescinde il proprio contratto: al suo posto arriva Cosmin Olaroiu, un’autentica istituzione nel mondo del calcio asiatico nella West Zone, deciso ad imporsi anche in estremo Oriente. Nelle stagioni 2018 e 2019 lo Jiangsu Suning ritrova se stesso, concludendo al quinto e quarto posto, con Alex Teixeira che torna ad essere un fattore fondamentale per il club. Nell’estate del 2019 si parlava addirittura del probabile arrivo di Gareth Bale, ma alla fine il Real Madrid ha deciso di non privarsi del campione gallese. Poco importa, arrivano Eder, Miranda ed il croato Ivan Santini, l’ossatura che ha decretato il successo di questo 2020.

Prospettive future

Lo Jiangsu Suning ha ora tutto il tempo per programmare la stagione 2021 da campione in carica, e vedremo come i nerazzurri di Cina cambieranno pelle. Il contratto di Alex Teixeira scade alla fine di questa stagione, mentre quello di Eder la prossima estate. Due questioni molto spinose che devono essere risolte quanto prima.

Questo mese, dopo la vittoria in Chinese Super League lo Jiangsu Suning si dedicherà alla Coppa Nazionale nel tentativo di raggiungere il double. Un obiettivo ampliamente alla portato considerando che la Chinese FA Cup si svolge in contemporanea con l’AFC Champions League e dunque Beijing Guoan, Evergrande e Sipg manderanno in Coppa le formazioni riserve.

Jiangsu Suning is the Champion of China

Historic day in the Chinese Super League with Jiangsu Suning winning the championship for the first time in its history by beating Guangzhou Evergrande in the final with goals from Eder and Teixeira.

This 2020 season in China was a very special one: it took place in two bubbles, with the teams divided into two groups of 8 teams for a total of 14 days of regular season, before reaching the playoffs and playouts for all the teams. In recent weeks, for example, we have seen the Tianin Teda, who did not win a single match in the group stage, then triumph in the first elimination match, thus guaranteeing an undeserved salvation.

From the boredom of the regular season we have moved on to an extremely exciting playoff phase, in which there were clearly favourites, but with the knowledge that anything can happen in direct confrontations. And so Jiangsu Suning, after having finished round A in second place behind Evergrande (eight points away), after having eliminated Chongqing Dangdai without any problems, finds himself in front of the battleship Shanghai Sipg of Oscar and Hulk.

Cosmin Olaroiu’s team built its fortunes on a solid 4-4-2, with Miranda leading the defence and the rocky Mubarak Wakaso in the middle and ahead of the fantasy of Alex Teixeira and the former Inter Eder Martins. A formation of quantity and quality able to play as a team and for this reason had better on the selfish game of the Shanghai Sipg: 1-1 on the first leg and 2-1 on the return.

In the final the opponent was the Guangzhou Evergrande of Paulinho, Talisca and the naturalized Fernandinho and Elkeson, an almost unstoppable battleship and one of the best formations on the Asian scene. The first match ends 0-0 and therefore the verdict is postponed to the second match…. the balance in the first half is total, but then the genius of Alex Teixeira is turned on and he does the whole pitch on a counter-attack and is then knocked down by He Chao at the edge of the penalty area. Foul by the last man and red card. The game changes radically and Eder Citadin Martins takes care of it with a free kick that is bagged in the net because of Paulinho’s deflection.

Alex Teixeira is once again unstoppable at the start of the game: on the 49th minute, he moves from the left to go back in and shoots to the right of the goalkeeper who finds the right corner. It’s 2-0 and in that moment Jiangsu Suning really understands he can do it.

Fabio Cannavaro makes many changes by putting in place a purely offensive formation. Never give for dead the Guangzhou Evergrande who, with a great reaction of pride, gets back into the game with Wei Shihao’s goal. But in the final, Jiangsu Suning manages to slow down and manage the pace of the match, wasting a few very tempting counterattacks that could cost dearly.

After seven very long minutes of recovery the referee finally whistles the end and Jiangsu Suning for the first time in its history is champion of China, while Fabio Cannavaro’s Guangzhou Evergrande has to go home empty-handed.

A success that bears the name of Alex Teixeira and Eder Citadin Martins, strikers returning from a fantastic season in which they scored 10 and 9 goals respectively. But the credit also goes to the coach, Cosmin Olaroiu: the Romanian is one of the most winning figures on the entire Asian scene, capable of winning 4 championships and 4 cups in the United Arab Emirates, as well as having collected successes in Qatar and Saudi Arabia… and then writing a piece of history in China.

The success of Suning

This title also came because of the special formula of this championship considering that, with a standard format, Jiangsu Suning was competing for third place and returning to the Champions League after several years. In the fifth year of Suning’s ownership, however, an unexpected success has arrived that projects the nanjing team to a new dimension after years of instability.

Suning became the owner of the club in Nanjing in 2016 and immediately set up a pharaonic football market spending over 100 million euros bringing players of the calibre of Alex Teixeira (50 million from Shakthar) and Ramires (28 million from Chelsea) to the court of Dan Petrescu. Things proceed between ups and downs, the Romanian coach is exonerated in favour of the Korean Choi Yong soo due to the elimination in the Champions League as well as a series of negative results. Jiangsu Suning finishes both the championship and the National Cup in second place behind Guangzhou Evergrande. It seems like the beginning of a new dimension for the Nanjing team, but everything changes for the worse the following year.

In 2017, Jiangsu Suning finds itself caught up in the struggle not to go backwards. Choi makes room for Fabio Capello, with the Italian coach who arrives in tandem with ds Walter Sabatini, and yet things still don’t work out mainly because of a corporate chaos caused by the failed attempt to transfer Ramires to Inter and to sell Teixeira to Brazil. In the end, Jiangsu managed to save itself, but the team was completely disbanded, so much so that in the pre-season training camp of 2018 it was defeated 8-0 by CSKA Sofia.

Fabio Capello’s experience of failure was just beginning and after only three days the Italian coach terminated his contract: Cosmin Olaroiu, a real institution in the world of Asian football in the West Zone, decided to impose itself also in the Far East, arrived in his place. In the 2018 and 2019 seasons Jiangsu Suning rediscovered itself, finishing in fifth and fourth place, with Alex Teixeira once again becoming a fundamental factor for the club. In the summer of 2019 there was even talk of Gareth Bale’s likely arrival, but in the end Real Madrid decided not to deprive itself of the Welsh champion. Little matter, Eder, Miranda and Croatian Ivan Santini arrived, the backbone that decreed the success of this 2020.

Future prospects

Jiangsu Suning now has plenty of time to plan for the reigning champion season 2021, and we will see how the Nerazzurri of China will change their skin. Alex Teixeira’s contract expires at the end of this season, and Eder’s contract next summer. Two very thorny issues that need to be resolved as soon as possible.

This month, after the victory in the Chinese Super League, Jiangsu Suning will dedicate itself to the National Cup in an attempt to reach the double. This is a very important goal considering that the Chinese FA Cup takes place at the same time as the AFC Champions League and therefore Beijing Guoan, Evergrande and Sipg will send the reserve teams to the Cup.
